Have you ever been in your early 30s with a newborn baby and tried to open a medical dispensary? It was an amazing time and yet it brought much more than I had even thought was possible. The year was 2009 as I set out to help change the Oregon Medical Marijuana landscape...

We had the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) since 1999 but there was still no professional way to obtain your medical marijuana. The system was only registration. The system did not connect a patient to a grower and definitely did not help you find any medication. It was well over do. My husband had been cultivating cannabis for over a decade and we has a little retail garden shop. Next door the space tucked off into the corner was sitting vacant. I wrote out my plan after diving deep into understanding the laws, rules, statutes and players of the industry at that time. Remember, this was when we still said "I am trying to grow tomatoes indoors." To put it bluntly, it was an incredible time to be the first, to be bold and brave. And with that position though was great responsibility to be a role model and move the industry forward not backward. The Human Collective was a great success story. I am so proud to have played even a small part in how the cannabis industry moved forward and yet, there has been a lot of collateral damage. On September 27, 2012 I was raided by local law enforcement at my home. This completely changed the trajectory of my career path. It was not the Feds, it was local! Collateral damage happens in a flash. Are you ready for yours? Everyone experiences something, I have been through it ALL, literally.
